Terms of Use
These are the terms you agree to when you buy a PlantSense monitor, use our website or app, subscribe to PlantSense Cloud, or link our Alexa skill. We have written them in plain English, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.
Last updated: 10th August 2026
Who we are
PlantSense is owned and operated by Play Kings, based in North Somerset, United Kingdom. Where these terms say we, us or our, they mean Play Kings.
PlantSense monitors are built, programmed and assembled by us at our North Somerset facilities. Your contract for anything you buy here is with Play Kings, and we handle your order, your warranty and your support.
The PlantSense website is designed and hosted for us by Infinite Lives Group. The monitors, the firmware and the PlantSense app are our own.
You can reach us at hello@plantsense.co.uk or through our contact page.
These terms
By using this website, buying from us, using the PlantSense app, subscribing to PlantSense Cloud, or linking our Alexa skill, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
Our privacy policy explains what we do with your information and forms part of these terms.
Nothing here takes away your legal rights as a consumer. If anything in these terms conflicts with your statutory rights, your statutory rights win.
Your account
You do not need an account to use a monitor on your own home wifi. You only need one for PlantSense Cloud, the website account area, and the Alexa skill.
When you create an account:
- Give us accurate details, and keep your email address up to date so we can reach you.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.
- You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian agree to these terms on your behalf.
You can delete your account at any time, from the app, from your online account, or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your account details and your stored readings. Your monitors keep working on your own wifi.
We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, to abuse the service, or in a way that risks other customers. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and explain why.
The monitors
A PlantSense monitor measures moisture in the soil it is placed in and reports what it finds. It is a guide to help you water sensibly. It is not a guarantee that a plant will thrive, and it does not water anything for you. Plants are affected by light, temperature, drainage, pests and plenty else besides, so please keep using your own judgement.
To work as described, a monitor needs:
- A 2.4GHz home wifi network. A 5GHz only network will not work.
- Continuous USB power. Monitors are not battery powered.
- The probe placed in soil, at the depth described in the setup guide.
Monitors are calibrated by us before they are packed, so there is nothing for you to set up beyond connecting to your wifi and choosing the plant.
Monitors are designed for domestic garden and indoor use. They are not suitable for use in ponds or standing water, for measuring anything other than soil, or for any purpose where a failed reading could cause harm or loss.
Ordering and payment
Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we send you an order confirmation. If we cannot fulfil an order, for example because an item is out of stock or was priced wrongly, we will tell you and refund you in full.
Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Delivery costs are shown before you pay.
Payment is taken through PayPal. We never see or store your full card details.
We try hard to keep prices and descriptions accurate. If we spot an obvious error, we will contact you before dispatching, and you can confirm at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
Delivery
We deliver to addresses in the United Kingdom. Delivery times shown are estimates, not guarantees.
Risk passes to you when the goods are delivered to the address you gave us. If something arrives damaged, tell us within a reasonable time and we will put it right.
Cancelling and returns
If you are a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel most online orders within 14 days of receiving them, without giving a reason. You then have a further 14 days to send the goods back.
To cancel, email hello@plantsense.co.uk and tell us your order number. You do not have to use any particular form of words.
Please return items complete and in a condition that lets us resell them. You pay the cost of returning goods unless they are faulty or not as described. We refund within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or of you showing they were sent. We may reduce a refund to reflect any loss of value caused by handling beyond what is needed to check the item.
Your cancellation right does not apply to a subscription period you have already used, though you can cancel a subscription at any time as described below.
If something is faulty
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
- Within 30 days of delivery, you can reject a faulty item for a full refund.
- Up to 6 months, we will repair or replace it. If that fails, you can have a refund.
- Beyond 6 months, your rights continue, though you may need to show the fault was there from the start.
This does not cover damage from misuse, accident, unauthorised modification, or from using a monitor outside the conditions described above.
PlantSense Cloud
Monitoring on your own home wifi is included with your monitor and needs no subscription. PlantSense Cloud is an optional paid service that adds viewing from anywhere, stored history, alerts, and the Alexa skill.
New accounts get a free trial period, which starts when you first link a monitor rather than when you register. If you do not subscribe when the trial ends, your monitor keeps working on your own wifi and your stored readings are kept, but the away from home features stop.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account, and the service continues to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part periods unless the law requires it or we have got something wrong.
Detailed readings are kept for the period described in our privacy policy, after which a daily summary is retained. Removing a monitor from your account archives it, which keeps its history, rather than deleting it. Deleting your account removes everything we are not legally required to keep.
We may change what is included in the plan, or its price. Where a change is to your disadvantage we will give you reasonable notice, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
The app
The PlantSense app is provided free. You may use it on devices you own or control, for your own use.
The app works without an account for monitors on your own wifi. Signing in is optional and adds your cloud monitors.
We update the app from time to time to add features, fix problems and keep it working with current phones. Some features need a supported operating system version, and very old devices may stop being supported.
The Alexa skill
Our Alexa skill lets you ask about your plants out loud. It is optional, and it needs a PlantSense account, at least one linked monitor, and an active PlantSense Cloud subscription.
Alexa, Echo and related names are trademarks of Amazon. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Amazon. Your use of Alexa is also governed by Amazon’s own terms and privacy notice, which we have no control over.
The skill answers questions about your own monitors. It reads out information such as your monitor names, their moisture readings and whether they need watering, so bear that in mind if your device is somewhere others can hear it.
You can unlink at any time in the Alexa app. Unlinking stops Alexa seeing your plants and does not affect your monitors, your app or your account.
We cannot guarantee the skill will always be available, since it depends on Amazon’s service as well as ours.
Using our services properly
Please do not:
- Use the service for anything unlawful, or to break anyone else’s rights.
- Try to gain access to accounts, devices or data that are not yours.
- Interfere with the service, or place unreasonable load on it, including automated scraping or bulk requests.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with our software or firmware, except where the law expressly allows it.
- Resell or redistribute our service, or present it as your own.
- Submit anything false, offensive or infringing when suggesting a plant or contacting us.
If you suggest a plant for our database, you give us permission to publish and edit that information. We do not publish your name alongside it.
Availability
We aim to keep the website, the cloud service and the skill running, but we do not promise they will be uninterrupted. They may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control such as your internet connection, your wifi, or a third party service we depend on.
Your monitors continue to read and report on your own network during a cloud outage, and queued readings are sent up when the connection returns.
Our intellectual property
The PlantSense name and logo, the website, the app, the firmware, the plant database and our written content belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, reproduce or reuse them commercially without our written permission.
Buying a monitor gives you the right to use its firmware on that monitor. It does not transfer ownership of the software.
What we are responsible for
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for:
- Loss or damage to plants, crops or property arising from a reading, a missed reading, or a decision you made based on the service.
- Loss caused by your internet connection, your wifi, your phone, or a third party service such as Amazon or your app store.
- Business losses, since our products are supplied for domestic use. If you use them in a business, we are not liable for lost profit, lost business or lost data.
Where we are liable, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. The date at the top shows when we last did. If a change materially affects you, we will give reasonable notice, and for subscribers you may cancel before it takes effect.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
If something has gone wrong, please email us first. We are a small British company, we answer our own emails, and most things are sorted out in a message or two.
