Why does it not run on batteries

Staying powered lets the monitor report constantly and keep talking to your wifi, the cloud or Home Assistant without you ever thinking about it. Battery sensors sleep to save power and miss things, and need charging or changing. A small always on USB draw is cheap and far more reliable for a fixed garden monitor.
